LEGACY is an engaging profile of Renzo Gracie, one of the latest carriers of the Gracie jiu-jitsu flame. It covers ten years of his active fighting career, with some back-story relating to his early years and family ties.

Unlike many puff profiles, “Legacy” does not honest selectively demonstrate the fights that the protagonist wins. In fact, I mediate most of the fights shown were ones where Renzo lost. Even if defeat, Renzo is worthy and tenacious. He reacted to defeat by picking himself up and getting support into the gym.

The most telling vignette is one where Renzo recalls being at a fighting event, sitting with a group of other fighters awaiting their bouts. Come of the other fighters comments on what they had rather be doing. Gracie exploded, “What the #$%^ is nasty with you?! There’s no situation on earth I’d rather be!!”

RENZO GRACIE

LEGACY

Probably the greatest documentary on a Mixed Martial Artist and it unprejudiced so happens it is on one of the all time greats, Renzo Gracie. The Gracie’s are the first family of MMA and are even literally the creators of The UFC; Renzo is one of the best fighters from that legendary family. For those who know that is really saying something because this family is beyond legendary. This documentary is an inside view into 10 plus years of Renzo’s life from his first fight to his latest against Frank Shamrock.

I savor the blueprint that this doc starts with Renzo telling a account about a time in Pride FC were the other fighters were talking about they would rather be home, his response to them is hilarious and unprejudiced shows the type of man that he is. From the open Renzo tells of how BJJ was started and how his father was a prisoner in a heinous land and was tortured along side his people. His telling of how his father said that no matter what was done to them there were some people in there who never broke, and never said a word, I like Renzo would be proud of that heritage as well. His family’s history is covered rather well in this and gives an insight into how it all began from humble beginnings to a legendary family.

His career is of course a driving force gradual this but more time is spent on his losses in this documentary, more so than his wins because you learn from them. His brutal knock out of Oleg Taktarov though is what starts things out on this doc. But until last night’s wonderfully stunning KO of Michael Bisping at the hands of yarn Dan Henderson I would say this is the most brutal knock out ever, it composed may even beat Henderson’s. From here we are treated to rare glimpses of Renzo’s early days including a fight that literally started the entire crowd to riot, I cherish those crazy Gracie’s

From his many wins to his fewer losses we are treated to his life in and out of the fight game, and like every other Gracie Renzo was born into Jiu-jitsu. Of course his time in Pride FC is covered including his classic bout with Sakaraba, as well as every other. Aloof even more intelligent is his fight with perhaps the greatest fighter ever BJ Penn who was trained by the Gracie’s, Ralph to be true. This fight gets a suitable amount of time spent on it mainly because of the feud between the two camps, their history and of course because the fight was wonderful. Also included is the world celebrated Abu Dhabi and footage of not only Renzo competing in it but other Gracie’s as well as people like Eddie Bravo.

Still the fighting and such is only piece of this man’s gallop as we accept to seek the family man that he is and the leader that he is. I know it especially hard on him when his brother Ryan was found stupid in a jail cell in Brazil, R.I.P. Of course his time spent in the I.F.L. is documented since he was a coach [his team even won the championship one year]. But it is his now eminent fight with another myth in the game, Pat Miletich, which is probably my celebrated submission of all time. This fight was not only broadcast on the valid event but also on the indicate 60 Minutes [I absorb it was] which helped it become the most watched MMA bout ever.

Renzo went on to avenge a prior loss to Carlos Newton and also went on to defeat one of the greatest fighters to ever live, Frank Shamrock. Renzo is a man of principle, integrity, honor, and respect and is also one of the greatest fighters ever. This documentary covers all the highs and all the lows with no biased over 10 years of a fabulous career. It is rare to sight such a personal and fair examine inside the life of a martial artist. The special features are basically long enough to be another entire documentary on Renzo. I especially treasure the one featuring Renzo’s first American gloomy belt Matt Serra as Serra is actually coaching Renzo before his fight with Penn. That is what I care for about Renzo he is the teacher and person who trained Serra but he is not above him and arrogant in any draw and allows Serra to succor stammer him. You know you are noble if in a room pudgy of Brazilians [Gracies] you are the only American and are also respected enough by them that they will actually engage tips from you.

Buy this now and peek with your bear eyes what a titanic documentary is all about, Renzo’s Legacy is forever burned into my head. What a spacious man, fighter, and documentary, hold this now.
