Clone High has a very unique concept; aid in the 1980s, secret government agents dug up some of the most illustrious and influential historical figures and cloned them. Some other clones include George Washington Carver (Donald Faison), a science nerd obsessed with peanuts, Thomas Edison, an AV nerd, Ponce de Leon (Luke Perry), a Fonzie-esque guy who likes to litter, Vincent van Gogh (Andy Dick), a dismal art student (if you’ve seen Wedding Crashers, contemplate Todd), and Buddy Holly (Neil Flynn), an aviator with an hazardous plane. The episodes wonderfully travel fun of the teenage drama genre. The episodes all deal with bizarre “issues”, such as smoking raisins to accumulate high, corporate sponsorship, the ADD epidemic, religious tolerance, incarceration, and the death of a friend. In fact, every episode begins with “Tonight, on a very special Clone High”, and every episode has a “Previously” segment and a “On the next…” segment, neither of which are primary, because the reveal isn’t (for the most portion) serialized. Futhermore, the relationship structure is similar to that of most well-liked teen dramas; the male protagonist (Abe) likes the sexy girl (Cleo) who is dating a jerk (JFK), while his best female friend (Joan) pines for him. Meanwhile, Abe’s best male friend (Ghandi), is always trying to obtain with the girls, though he usually ends in failure. The animation is somewhat low, though I assume that it is (1) share of the show’s charm, and (2) another plot to pace fun at generic teen shows. I mediate that the cheap animation is supposed to accomplish us believe that this was a kind of hastily imitation.

A lot of the humor on the expose derives from the fact that so many of the clones are nothing like the originals. Abe is indecisive, JFK is not a splendid leader, Ghandi is a party animal, Ghengis Khan is mentally challenged, and Nostradamus is a bad psychic. Of course, there are numerous other kinds of jokes, ranging from new events references (such as the obscene marketing), tall guest stars (including Marilyn Manson, Jack Unlit, John Stamos, and Mandy Moore), and parodies of classic cartoons, such as when Scudworth engaged in a Roadrunner/Wile E. Coyote scenario with a skunk. Also, a lot of the humor is similar to that found on the note Scrubs, which makes sense because Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence is one of the creators of Clone High. And with the exception of Judy Reyes and Ken Jenkins, all of the Scrubs regulars did voices in this present. Also, a lot of guest stars on Scrubs also appeared in this display, sometimes as regulars (Nicole Sullivan, who does the mumble of Joan of Arc, had a somewhat recurring role on Scrubs) .

Sadly, Clone High was cancelled after only one season. There was so distinguished more they could have done, and so great humor to be had with yet-to-be introduced clones. It’s shadowy that we’ll never come by to leer the exploits of Abe and Ghadi or hear Mr. Butlertron call anyone Wesley again, but oh well. The reveal ended in a “cliff-hanger” which further parodied the teen drama. It’s actually a shapely fitting ending for the type of expose that Clone High is. Who knows, maybe someday we’ll earn a movie, similar to Firefly, but for now, luxuriate in these 13 episodes.

I’ve waited for three years for this demonstrate to be released on DVD. In that time I’ve had to obtain do with the complete series downloaded on my computer. But now that I have this site, I couldn’t be happier.

You may have read how annoying some reviewers gather the the 90-second Teletoon commercial introduction to be. Personally, I don’t mind it since it shows scenes from some of my celebrated cartoons - Family Guy, Futurama, etc. Nonetheless, you can’t skip past it (at least on my Sony DVD players) - but it’s not that poor.

What blew me away was the wonderful transfer quality. I could not acquire how titillating and vivid the exhibit looked. Honorable job with the print, as the image quality looked unprejudiced like that found on the Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Family Guy volumes. In addition, I could not fill how expansive the audio sounded. Absolutely no noise.

Regarding the audio, I was so happy to view that all of the songs that originally aired are on this situation. Clone High has such an wonderful selection of songs that I was ecstatic to inspect that they were retained. Dashboard Confessional, The Regain Up Kids, Saves the Day, Taking Attend Sunday, Hot Rod Circuit, The Anniversary, Alkaline Trio - this present is an emo-lovers dream! Also, it’s worth addressing the longer intro song. Having read about this change, I was prepared to hear it at the beginning of each episode - but I didn’t realize how noteworthy I’d miss the piano version on Episode 10. Clone High has such a grand theme song, and I missed this variation. However, a posthaste search on the internet will display that numerous sites have an mp3 of this song.

Overall, this was an profitable packaging. Good things first. This is easily one of the most breath-takingly, beautifully illustrated and lively anime out there, EVER. The intricately hand-drawn and murky character designs are beyond compare, and the frame rates are so silky quiet that probably only CG-3D stuff or Disney or Miyazaki stuff are more smoothly keen. By that virtue alone, Plastic Tiny easily belongs on every anime fan’s must-watch list.

Now for the poor. If there ever was an award for an “all glitter and zero substance” anime, well, Plastic Limited would easily procure. The myth is quite amusing in its cliches and pathetic lack of logic. Characters are annoyingly one-dimensional and have no depth whatsoever to suppose of. Worst of all, the storyline is disappointingly anti-climactic. It should be criminal for an anime with such a rare striking beauty to be strapped to a storyline so unrewarding.

In all fairness, Plastic Minute suffers the most from its possess brevity. It barely clocks in at 45 minutes, and that’s including the ending credit roll. If this was more of a full-length feature (say, 80-90 minutes), then there would have been a advantageous deal of time to flesh out the characters and their relationships, and to explain on the futuristic society and its technology.

Heck, even with its recent short length, the creators could have squeezed some of that into the storyline and have it produce a lot more sense. Granted, they are probably some of the most beautifully drawn breasts in all of anime, but I say that one such bath scene is enough for a 45-minute anime. I’d gladly trade a couple of the topless bouncy-breast scenes for a better developed status.

To sum it up, in terms of sheer beauty of the animation, Plastic Petite belongs in the top 10% of all animations ever made worldwide. In terms of smart, involving, Inspiring storyline, this one is approach the bottom of the heap. A total, direct shame.

Captain Tita is a PET HUNTER who, with her crew, ends up saving Elysse Mordish from Lord Guizel, a Darth Vader want to be, who wants the computer code she has. The code will allow him to spend her father’s work for sinister. That’s the area, no surprises or too many space twists.

On the other hand it has LOTS of nudity, explosions and techno-babble to please most male viewers. And the non-sexual relationship (or skinship as Patrick Drazen might call it) between Tita and Elysse could be enjoyed by female viewers.

It has ONLY 50 minutes so not a lot in character or position development. Judge of it as a short film or a extra-long episode. Extras include jiggle counter, sketches and storyboards.

The Good

A live performance for “Boy in the Bubble” in combined with the music video. Simon talks about how he was influenced by South African music as the tribal drums and accordion are accented. The video looks feeble by today’s high tech standards. The song was a titanic hit at the time but I consider you’ll remember it by it repeated chorus: These are they days of miracle and wonder. The producer of Graceland said that the trace Warner Brothers, had never heard anything like what Paul was doing. They display the studio recording footage position to the track “I Know What I Know”. The song that everyone is familiar with is obviously “You Can Call Me All”. Who can forget that penny whistle riff and funky bass line. There’s so grand more that you learn about the song here. Did you know that the obnoxious line is made up of a lick that is played forward then backward? Paul isolates the track in the studio to indicate. We also learn that the first video for the song sucked. SNL producer Lorn Michael’s actually pitched the opinion of Simon doing the video with Chevy Dawdle. The video was light and amusing, but Simon conception it under-cut the deep meaning of the song, which is really about him.

A very informative DVD; I have a whole fresh appreciation for Paul Simon’s Graceland after watching it. I’m actually going out to collect the album now.

No matter what the subject is, most people roar and bustle the other direction when they hear the word “documentary”, but this is an insightful, personal search for at the creative process that created one of the American music industry’s most successful albums.

Paul Simon and his musical cohorts offer personal stories, recording footage, and a history of not only of the album, but the circumstances–both private and international–that influenced the birth of the conception.

The only drawback to this collection is that one never sees a video from launch to finish; and that–or a complete song performed live–would have been nice.

Season nine starts where we left off the previous season, with George recovering from injuries he took down a flight of stairs, thus interrupting the “Summer of George” he was planning to relish with his kindly severance check from the Unique York Yankees. George expeditiously finds another job, but his potential unique boss has misunderstood his cane, and before George can define the boss tells George about all of the benefits he will savor as a handicapped employee. George decides to go along with the ruse when he discovers he will have his bear specially outfitted bathroom to suit his handicap - a perk George cannot resist. When George is found out by his employer and even offered another well-behaved severance package to leave, he decides to dig in and the whole state turns into a amusing seige. George never fails to offend and exasperate people, so later in the season when an acquaintance is working on step nine of the AA program by going around and apologizing for past transgressions George is glum that he is never apologized to. He agitates the acquaintance about this so badly that he does eventually obtain the apology. However, unfortunately now the bad fellow has an inflame management plight on top of his alcoholism due to George and must enroll in smooth another befriend group.

Elaine is in a longer relationship than usual, continuing her romance with ace auto mechanic David Puddy. Puerto Rican Day didn’t seem to have the same level of ensemble humor I was accustomed to seeing, the clip shows are fair bits and pieces taken from prior shows that were shown on the night the finale was broadcast, and the finale honest didn’t live up to my expectations. But then it would be hard to wrap up in one hour a point to that spent nine years focused on the minutia of life as experienced by four self-involved people and somehow managed to never disappoint. Five knowing stars for two intellectual performances by Sandro Panseri and the handsome Loredana Detto and to Ermanno Olmi for a masterful job in creating this astonishing film. I’ve watched this film several times after recently purchasing the DVD and I am amazed at how a film such as this can be constructed to remark the plump spectrum of emotions. Why would anyone ever need to gain a film with “special effects” when the most fabulous “special execute” ever created is the human face and Sandro Panseri as Domenico in this film is so convincing and colorful. I was one with Domenico, experiencing each and every emotion. The scenes between Domenico(Sandro Panseri) and Antonietta (Loredana Detto) are very attractive and special and the scenes between Domenico and his brother are priceless. The DVD extras are very interesting; the interview with Ermanno Olmi, the film restoration demonstration as well as the written material that accompanies the DVD. Working for a corporation and in an office environment for many years, I can represent to many aspects of this film. Plus it’s filmed in glorious shaded and white! The mammoth thing about viewing the DVD is the ability to freeze a frame and focus on an image of an aspect of life as portrayed in this film. Grazie a Ermanno Olmi, Sandro Panseri e Loredana Detto. Complimenti! Che bravo! Grazie ancora!

If anything else, Olmi’s film is about human grace. The movie follows the life of a young man who’s looking for a job to supplement his family’s income. There’s a social undercurrent to the film, but Olmi’s distress is far more humanistic. He’s fervent in the joys and disappointments of his characters. I found the sequence when the young man attempts to hook-up with the young woman both touching and awkward. More importantly, at one point in the movie, the camera follows the lives of the other people in the company to yell their lives already lived and filled with everyday drama. Kudos for Criterion for releasing this film to a wider audience. It’s beyond me why the movie’s not widely known. It should be up there in the pantheon of the astronomical Italian neo-realist films.

The one-note song of evolution has dominated the origins scene so long that evolutionists no longer deem they have to retort tough questions that challenge the theory. These aesthetic videos asked logical, probing questions that need to be addressed, not simply dismissed. When we could have a symphony of ideas being discussed and debated, why do we continue to determine for the monotony of the “Our intention or the highway” attitude of so many evolutionists? Science should be about challenge, discovery and growth, not stagnation and radiant bigotry.

I am an educator with a Masters in Education as is my wife. We found these riveting. We have watched them over and over and shared them with a number of others. I cannot remember my common lines and our spot is currently loaned out, but suffice it to say that we highly recommend these.

If you know nothing about Luminous Gain these are a tall starting point. We have found that too many people have discounted this movement and lumped it into the Creationist camp without doing their homework.

This is not a Creationist viewpoint, but it certainly points out that evolution as a theory is used (remember that a naturalist with slight experience postulated the theory 150 years ago. The theory has always been embroiled in controversey and as we have deepened our knowledge evolution has had to be modified so that now it is an plan with many defectors and factions.

It has been a while since I’ve reviewed something on my lifelong favorite’s list. So I’ve chosen “Time After Time” because it isn’t very well known by younger audiences nor is it necessarily considered a “classic.”

However, I instantly fell in love with this movie over 25 years ago–and I still consider it a rip-roaring good time!

Starting out with the most bizarre plot ever, “Time After Time” will keep you enthralled. It is a glorious popcorn flick–fast, light, fun, and exciting in equal measures. Set in 1893, we meet H. G. Wells (Malcolm MacDowell) who is unknowingly friends with Jack The Ripper (David Warner). MacDowell has constructed a time machine which Warner misappropriates as he is fleeing the authorities. He travels to modern day San Francisco where he continues his murderous ways. MacDowell follows him, he must stop Jack The Ripper! He meets up with a local woman, Mary Steenburgen, who helps him adjusts and ultimately gets caught up in his unlikely story.

“Time After Time” succeeds in several different genres concurrently. This is a credible sci-fi pic, a sweet romance, a fish out of water comedy, as well as a decent serial killer thriller. I think that’s what I love and respect about this film, it’s out there. There is no way that this picture should work, it should be terrible. And yet, inexplicably, Nicholas Meyer has crafted an intricate and audacious work. Even if I didn’t love this movie, I would respect its ambition and scope. But love it I do, this is one of the most wildly entertaining pictures you could hope to see. Some people might be tempted to dismiss this work as dated or even slight–and yes, you do have to accept that this is a product of the 70’s. There are references to “free love” and other concepts of the era, but at the same time–the film is incredibly prescient about violence in the modern age. Every time Warner describes how he was meant to exist in this future, where killings and debauchery are commonplace, I understand a real truth in his sentiment.

The performances are cracking good. MacDowell is the unlikeliest hero and a refreshing romantic lead. Warner has NEVER NEVER been better. If you are even a passing fan of his, you must see this picture. And Mary Steenburgen is a delight–she doesn’t do enough these days! Maybe this isn’t highbrow entertainment, but it is dazzling fun. Recommended to all without even the slightest hesitation. KGHarris, 12/06.

It’s amazing that with time travel stories having been around for 100 years that we can continue to think of variations. In this case the variation is a good one, perhaps one of the best that has ever been done.

A relatively innocent and naive H.G. Wells, well-played by a Malcolm McDowell very different from the one that played Alex in “A Clockwork Orange”, sets the stage for Jack the Ripper, played by David Warner, to travel forward into 1979 to menace modern San Francisco.

The movie has a few flaws. The special effects of time travel are a bit cheesy. Fortunately time travel is a device to set the stage for the movie, and the weak special effects can be forgiven given the quality of the rest of the movie. As for why the time machine moved from London to San Francisco, there isn’t any really good way to explain how that happened. The best explanation I can give is that the Earth was spinning below the time machine as it maintained a fixed location. However, gravity must have played a role because had that been really true, both Jack the Ripper and H.G. Wells would have ended up in outer space as The Earth and the solar system moved out from under them. If you can suspend your belief in time travel you can also suspend your belief in how the time machine moved.

Getting past the special effects you get to a marvelous early performance by twenty-five year old Mary Steenburgen. She plays a very modern woman to Malcolm McDowell’s Victorian naivete, and while she is very modern, holding an executive position and talking about sexual relationships with the casualness of pre-aids 1979, she also has an innocence of her own that is well suited to Malcolm’s character.

David Warner, who has often played in bad guy roles, moves from relatively restrictive Victorian London to the relatively violent society of 20th century San Francisco, where, as he tells Malcolm McDowell, he fits right in with his violent ways. David projects such a wonderful matter-of-fact evil that is perfectly believable and all the more frightening because he seems so normal except when threatening or killing someone. His casual tendency to bloody violence (which unfortunately leads to more periodic weak special effects when blood splatters) contrast well with the relative innocence of McDowell and Steenburgen.

The entire point of the movie is that H.G. Wells created the time machine that allowed Jack the Ripper to escape to wreak havoc on modern utopian society (so H.G. Wells thought it would have to be), and Wells feels obligated to stop him. Jack must prevent Wells from interfering with his plans, and so must obtain the key of the time machine from him. So each is pursuing the other for the majority of the film.

While the principal story is the chase between McDowell and Warner, McDowell and Steenburgen develop a perfectly matched romance that becomes the secondary and ultimately a very important part of the story. The movie would have survived on the romance alone, but then it would have been very similar to the Christopher Reeve movie “Somewhere in Time” released the year after this movie that was primarily about romance, and relied more on fantasy than science fiction.

The climax of this movie builds until the ultimate showdown between McDowell and Warner that contains enough surprises that all but the most jaded of movie fans should find suspenseful (no, I’m not going to give away the ending just in case you haven’t seen the movie). The first time I saw this movie I know I was surprised by the last 15 minutes or so.

The DVD is filled with a variety of extras that more than make this movie worth the relatively paltry price. Certainly the story makes it a fitting companion to the earlier George Pal version with Rod Taylor taking the lead role.

Almost a 5-star rated movie, be prepared to watch it for McDowell’s wide-eyed innocent view of modern San Francisco as he chases about after someone who has no such innocence. One of the best stories set with a time travel background, and well done by the lead actors.
