Love, love Emmet Otter! My husband had been watching this since he was a kid. He is an Emmet Otter purist. He states that Kermit was in the orginal both to at the start of the movie and at towards the end in the Riverside Rest as part of the audience. According to Wikipedia the following is the reason we may never have a full version available…

The original special was hosted by Kermit the Frog; however later releases edited out the frog’s naration due to legal issues. While The Jim Henson Company retained ownership of Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas, the company sold the rights to the Muppets (including Kermit) to the Walt Disney Company in 2004.
This is not the original, full version that featured Kermit the Frog as narrator. It is edited, with some lines being cut from the show as well as full scenes. Even some of the songs are edited or shortened. I hope the full, unedited version of this classic show will be released soon. My rating is due to this not being the full version. The program itself is still as enjoyable as ever but would be much more enjoyable if it wasn’t edited.

“It’s destiny, fate that brings us together. Redundancy. They just don’t care that your mother used to eat insurance men and that yours was struggling to bring you up nicely as a little poof.” So says Clegg (Peter Sallis) to his companions, Compo (Bill Owen) and Blamire (Michael Bates), three fellows getting on in years reunited by unemployment after knowing each other all their lives in a small Yorkshire town. There’s no real story to Last of the Summer Wine, simply the well-observed banter of the central trio and a gallery of eccentric supporting characters. Compo, the irreverent and scruffy “village idiot” and Clegg, the amiable working man are well-loved figures, complemented by the middle-class Conservative Blamire (a nicely rounded portrayal by Bates) and Foggy (Brian Wilde), who joined the series in 1976. This set is a reminder of how good the longest-running comedy in British television history once was, when it was new, fresh, and laugh-out-loud funny. –Gary S. Dalkin

This 1988 British telefilm from the second series of the long-running mystery Inspector Morse sends Morse (John Thaw), that cultured curmudgeon of a police detective, on the six-month-old case of a missing schoolgirl. “She’s dead,” he proclaims, dismissing the case as a dead end and a waste of time, but tru to form he investigates with his trademark relentlessness and uncovers something he didn’t expect–a conspiracy at the girl’s private school resulted in murder.
Still early in the series (it lasted until The Remorseful Day in 2000), we find Morse still getting comfortable with his young partner. Sergeant Lewis (Kevin Whately) is a family man who would rather head home at the end of the day than drink a pint with his partner. Morse is up to his old tricks, sneaking scotch in coffee mugs at crime scenes and taking beer breaks, and Thaw plays the loner detective without a hint of self-consciousness. And in the best tradition of British TV mysteries, this crime is solved not with shootouts or car chases, but by relentless investigation and sheer brainpower (helped along by a couple of pints of ale). Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers) and Julia Sawalha (Saffron from Absolutely Fabulous) have small parts as schoolgirls qustioned by Morse and Lewis. –Sean Axmaker

As suave Manhattan dating consultant Alex “Hitch” Hitchens, Smith plays up the smoother, sophisticated side of his established screen persona as he mentors a pudgy accountant (Kevin James) on the lessons of love. The joke, of course, is that Hitch’s own love life is a mess, and as he coaches James toward romance with a rich, powerful, and seemingly inaccessible beauty named Allegra (Amber Valetta), he’s trying too hard to impress a savvy gossip columnist (Eva Mendes) with whom he’s fallen in love. Through mistaken identities and mismatched couples, director Andy Tennant brings the same light touch that made Drew Barrymore’s Ever After so effortlessly engaging. Adam Sandler fans will find the animated movie 8 Crazy Nights to be another flowering of Sandler’s absurdist goofiness. People who find Sandler completely annoying will be triply annoyed by 8 Crazy Nights, because Sandler does the voices for three different characters: Davey Stone, a boozing, belching, self-loathing loser who hates the holidays; Whitey, a tiny old man who tries to rehabilitate Davey; and Eleanor, Whitey’s neurotic twin sister, who seems not to have left her house in years. Fans will find the slapdash musical numbers and scatological humor hilarious; foes will find them tiresome and banal. But even Sandler’s advocates won’t care about the by-the-numbers plot of holiday redemption; you see, Davey’s parents died on the first night of Hanukkah, and he just needs to cry about it. Sandler’s best when he’s walking that line between stupid and smart-ass. When he gets sentimental, it’s trouble. –Bret Fetzer
